The Weekend - So Far No Ride

I often wonder sometimes why I do not ride, perhaps it was that I got lost in the world of the sims, lost in that virtual verse. Or was it simply because it is easier to not do then to actually do. Both valid questions that I need to answer for myself, or perhaps you can offer your insight, in the challenges you faced and how you overcame them for whatever goal, but preferably specific to Riding my Bike More.

With any change certainly there will be challenges, through those challenges I know I need to grow, and so I constantly set up one more entry, one more view, for the good and the bad of it. I will ride my bike more.

After the Initial Inspiration I went out and rode

To put action to the words, is the only way sometimes to overcome and change …

Even if it was only a short ride to the local library to pick up Nineteen minutes by Jodi Picoult as I had read some reviews of it on Heliumand decided to go and get a copy fortunately there was one on hand at a library near here.

There was also a book that was Overdue The Winner Stands Alone by Paulo Coelho that had been recommended to me, and I had read it and enjoyed it thoroughly. Yet I had fallen behind whether because I was in a habit of not getting out and riding or simply procrastination but I knew I had to do it and after seeing another cyclist still riding in the pouring rain I went for it.

Since it was raining though I put the Book in my Pannier(Click to Define what Pannier is) which I have found indispensable in riding my bike more. Not to mention it is great for bicycle commuting to boot. Put a plastic bag over the book to be sure none of the water would find it’s pages and opened the garage and was on my way.

As I am an advocate of bicycling as a vehicle, I followed the roads out and stayed on the roads from my house to the library and back using turn signals and keeping pace while getting soaked. I can honestly say though it felt good to be out there by Human Power traveling with traffic and even when I got home I may of been soaked but was glad I got out there and put action to the words, thanks to the anonymous cyclist who was doing just that. Putting action to the words rain or shine.

Rain Falling and a Man Still Riding

While I was out today, I saw something that reminded me of the fact that really there is no excuse, rain or shine, you can always ride a bike. As I was sitting in the car, near the Salvation Army I see a cyclist fly by, wearing reflective clothes and cruising at an amazing speed soaked to a point where his outside slicker was stuck to his skin but he was still riding, not caring that rain was falling or water that may of been flying up into his face.

It reminded me that you can ride no matter the weather it is just a matter of gritting your teeth jumping on the bike and riding rain or shine, I wish I would of got a picture, but it was surely a reminder to me as a visual cue that it can be done, that riding a bike more can and should be done.

To whomever that is, thanks for the reminder, and the reason to make this challenge come about by Februrary 28th 2010.

A Challenge to Ride my Bike More By February 28th 2010

When I go biking, I repeat a mantra of the day’s sensations: bright sun, blue sky, warm breeze, blue jay’s call, ice melting and so on. This helps me transcend the traffic, ignore the clamorings of work, leave all the mind theaters behind and focus on nature instead. I still must abide by the rules of the road, of biking, of gravity. But I am mentally far away from civilization. The world is breaking someone else’s heart. ~Diane Ackerman

Such great words, to take on the challenge is to keep on task, rain or shine, whether easy or difficult I truly need to take the steps and get back out there and ride, it is sad to say the one account I setup for bicycling related information on twitter has been to long devoid of new thoughts or ideas and stories of rides which previously was what became the tweets from that account.

As Such from this point forward to February 2010, I need to take the steps and ride, as the initial plan before was to travel to Boston and ride come March, but to do that requires some previous conditioning and additional income both of which are on my goals list. So this is the start, the rest of the story can only be seen as the action is taken and I get out and ride again.

The Day Just Finished | Sunday Has Begun | 00:02:02 Hours

Well I did get out and ride, not for very much in the end, but at least I rode just a bit, come Sunday my objectives is to cover additional miles as I am keeping a going Tally on Riding My Bike 10,000 Miles By Year End which is in line with this objective.

It was certainly a short ride for a Saturday, but there is a whole week ahead and an entire day to ride through when the sun is shining tomorrow, so bit by bit it always goes.
